ONLY 13 days to go to raise $9,700 for the SalaamGarageNYC project Everybody Needs Someone, Aging-Out of Foster Care on Kickstarter.
We love that already we have 69 donors and 802 “likes”. Crowdfunding is pretty cool and also pretty scary.
But we need a lot more still to succeed. Today we are adding new perks levels to the Kickstarter from ShadowBox Shop and Fiber Ink Studio, our partners in fabulous exhibition prints and mounting for the show. Please share with your community, friends, family, and co-workers. Even $5 makes a difference!

The photography exhibition will be opening at the Long Island Children’s Museum June 23rd. Already crunch time! We also need to complete and print the book. The book is a beautiful, moving compilation of more than a dozen of the stories from this project. By getting these stories out there to a larger audience we can help the more than 400,000 children who are in the foster care system in America receive better support by hearing the stories of the courageous aged-out youth our team photographed and interviewed.
The prints proofing session was a success! The expert eyes of Lesly at Fiber Ink Studio and photographer and assistant producer Amelia Coffaro have been priceless. Now Amelia and Jen at ShadowBox Shop have the mounting to do. We chose to do Sinatra mounts (sounds so smooth) to avoid having frames and make the work more approachable to the Long Island Children’s Museum audience.
It was so great to see all of the initial test strips, it really showed that we have come a long way since photographer Yvonne Allaway and I started thinking of how we could help foster kids in NYC about 2 years ago. Since then the project took off thanks to photographer Heather Walsh who arranged the exhibition and wrangled so many of our aged-out youth on-board for this incredible ride.
